What is 10DLC?
10DLC is a 10-digit long code phone number used only in the United States for transactional and promotional messaging.
What is 10DLC Registration?
10DLC Registration refers to a process from carriers in the United States that requires businesses to register their SMS traffic. This requirement applies to all businesses sending Application-to-Person (A2P) messages via standard 10-digit long code (10DLC) phone numbers.
The purpose of 10DLC registration is to ensure messaging remains a channel customers can trust, that’s free of spam and unsolicited communications.
What is A2P messaging?
A2P stands for application-to-person, so A2P messaging is any message sent from an application, such as Heymarket, to an individual.
A2P messaging can be used for everything from appointment reminders, product updates, and even promotional messages like sales and restock alerts. With A2P messaging, businesses can use automations, like campaigns, message scheduling, autoresponders, away messages, and templates.
Do I need to complete 10DLC registration?
If you are a business using Heymarket to send messages of any kind from a 10-digit long code (10DLC) you need to complete 10DLC registration.
While 10DLC currently only applies to messaging traffic in the United States, we highly recommended that anyone with a North American number complete 10DLC registration as a campaign best practice.
What happens if I don't complete 10DLC registration?
If you do not complete 10DLC registration, your messaging service will eventually be disrupted.
Carriers will stop supporting SMS traffic from 10DLC numbers that are unregistered, meaning your messages will fail to send and you will receive an error message.
How does 10DLC impact business texting?
U.S. mobile carriers require that all businesses sending A2P messages on a 10DLC phone number register their brand with a chosen third-party partner. Each business is vetted, providing businesses with better deliverability and protecting consumers from unwanted spam messages.
If a business decides not to register their brand and continues messaging with their 10DLC phone number, their service will eventually be disrupted. Certain carriers will stop supporting SMS traffic from 10DLC numbers that are unregistered, meaning messages to customers on that carrier will fail and the sender will receive an error message.
What are the benefits of 10DLC?
- Text from a recognized local area code
- Improved deliverability and throughput
- A regulated channel protected from spam
- Text and call on the same phone number
Already using 10DLC?
If you’re a Heymarket customer and haven’t yet registered your 10DLC, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible to avoid disruption of service.
