Yes, in most cases you can use the same phone number on Heymarket for texting and on a third-party service like Aircall, RingCentral, or Dialpad for voice calls. The key is that texting (SMS/MMS) and voice are separate services that can be hosted by different providers on the same number, as long as the number type supports it and both providers are coordinated.
How it works
A phone number has two distinct capabilities: voice and messaging. Heymarket can take over the messaging side of a landline, VoIP, or toll-free number while your existing carrier continues to handle voice. This is sometimes called "text-enabling" the number, and it leaves your voice service untouched.
If your voice provider is a service like Aircall, you keep that number active there for calls, and Heymarket handles only the SMS/MMS traffic.
Registering vs. porting
These two terms are often used interchangeably but mean different things:
Registering (text-enabling) adds SMS capability to a number whose voice service stays with your current provider. Nothing about the voice side changes. This is the path most customers use when pairing Heymarket with Aircall or another voice platform. See How to text-enable landline numbers with Heymarket.
Porting transfers ownership of the number (and typically both voice and SMS) to a new carrier. Mobile and Google Voice numbers can only be moved this way, which means you lose the voice features at the original provider. See How to port an existing VoIP number to Heymarket.
What works with which number type
Landline and toll-free numbers can be text-enabled on Heymarket while voice stays with Aircall or any other voice provider. This is the cleanest setup.
VoIP numbers can usually be text-enabled, but some VoIP carriers do not release SMS rights without a port. Confirm with your VoIP provider before starting.
Mobile numbers cannot be split. Bringing a mobile number to Heymarket requires a full port and you will lose mobile voice service.
Coordination steps to avoid disruption
- Confirm with your voice provider (e.g., Aircall) that the number is hosted there and that they do not also claim SMS rights. If they do, ask them to release SMS so Heymarket can take it over.
- Submit a Letter of Authorization to Heymarket Support along with a recent bill and CSR if required.
- Keep the number active at your voice provider throughout the process. Do not cancel service.
- Once Heymarket confirms SMS is live, complete 10DLC registration to maintain deliverability.
Important limitations
A single number can only have one SMS provider at a time. If Aircall (or any other platform) is already sending and receiving texts on the number, that capability must be released before Heymarket can claim it.
Two-factor and verification codes sent to a ported number will route to whichever provider holds SMS, which may differ from where voice is hosted. Plan accordingly.
