Heymarket's built-in link shortening and click tracking lets you automatically convert long URLs into short, branded links (using the hey.mk domain) and track when contacts click them.
Why Use Link Shortening?
Improve deliverability. Public shorteners like bit.ly and tinyurl are frequently flagged by carriers as spam. Heymarket's branded short domain reduces the risk of carrier filtering.
Track engagement. See exactly which contacts clicked your links, when they clicked, and from which message. Use this data to follow up at the right time or measure campaign performance.
Use Cases
Sales follow-ups. Send a prospect a link to a proposal or pricing page and get notified the moment they click, so you can follow up while interest is high.
Broadcast campaigns. Include a link in a list broadcast (e.g., a promotion or event registration page) and review click-through data in the broadcast report to measure engagement.
Support deflection. Share a help center link in a chat and confirm whether the contact actually visited the resource before escalating.
Appointment reminders. Include a scheduling link in automated messages and track whether contacts are engaging with it.
How to Shorten Links
There are two ways to shorten URLs in Heymarket.
Option 1: Auto-Shorten from Inbox Settings
Enable automatic shortening so that any URL detected in an outgoing SMS is shortened at send time.
- Go to Admin > Inboxes: https://app.heymarket.com/admin/inboxes/ .
- Select the inbox you want to configure and click Settings.
- Toggle Auto shorten SMS URLs to On.
Once enabled, any URL typed or pasted into the chat composer for that inbox will be automatically converted to a short r.hey.mk link when the Shorten/Track URL button is clicked.
Option 2: In-Context Shortening
Shorten a specific link on demand from the message composer, without enabling auto-shortening for the entire inbox.
- Type or paste a URL into the message composer (in a chat or broadcast).
- A Shorten/Track URL button will appear above the composer.
- Click it. If the URL uses HTTP, a confirmation dialog will offer to upgrade it to HTTPS before shortening.
- Click Confirm to shorten the link.
The original URL in your message will be replaced with the short r.hey.mk link.
Where Link Shortening Works
You can shorten and track links in the following entry points:
- New and existing chat composers
- List and Broadcast creation (SMS)
- Campaign creation
Click Tracking
Once a shortened link is sent, Heymarket logs a click event each time a contact opens the link when sent from Broadcasts or Campaigns. Click data includes the contact identifier (phone number, email, or contact name) and a timestamp.
Viewing Clicks in a Chat
When a contact clicks a shortened link, the activity appears in two places within the chat:
- Timeline event on the contact's right-hand panel, showing the click alongside other chat activity.
- System message inline in the conversation thread, so your team can see engagement in context.
Viewing Clicks in Broadcast Reports
For list broadcasts, click data is available in the broadcast report.
- Navigate to Broadcasts and open the broadcast you want to review.
- Select the Link Activity tab to see a table of all link clicks.
- The Overview tab also displays a Clicked count in the summary metrics, and the Contacts tab shows a Clicked column per recipient.

What domain do shortened links use? Shortened links use the r.hey.mk domain.
Will auto-shortening apply to every inbox? No. Auto-shortening is configured per inbox. Enable it only on the inboxes where you want it active.
