Overview
Warming is the process of gradually ramping up email volume from a new domain or service to build a positive sender reputation. It’s essential for ensuring strong deliverability and avoiding spam filters when starting with Heymarket or switching domains.
What Is Email Warming?
Warming helps inbox providers recognize you as a legitimate sender. The process involves:
- Sending to your most engaged contacts first
- Gradually increasing send volume over time
- Monitoring engagement (opens, clicks, bounces) to avoid penalties
Warming vs. Ramping
- Warming refers to establishing initial sender trust with a new domain or IP
- Ramping is the gradual volume increase during warming (shared or dedicated IPs)
When Warming Is Needed
Use Heymarket’s warming guidelines if:
- You’re sending from a newly registered domain
- You’re new to Heymarket and switching from another provider
- You haven’t sent emails from your domain in over 45 days
- You lack recent engagement data
Not Required If:
- Your domain is older than 30 days and
- You’ve already used it for sending emails (e.g., from a previous platform)
Best Practices
- Start small: Send to your most active contacts
- Monitor metrics: Watch for spikes in bounces or unsubscribes
- Segment smartly: Prioritize high open/click users
- Send consistently: Avoid long gaps between sends during warm-up
