Overview
Gmail clips emails that exceed size limits, which can impact how your message is displayed and whether open tracking works correctly.
What is Email Clipping?
Clipping occurs when an email exceeds Gmail’s size threshold:
- Desktop Gmail: ~102 KB
- Mobile Gmail (iOS): as low as ~20 KB
- Other mobile clients: ~75 KB
How to Avoid Clipping
- Keep total email size (HTML, text, styling) under 102 KB
- Use unique subject lines to prevent Gmail from grouping messages and hiding content
- Remove unused blocks, background images, and embedded styles
- Minimize conditional or dynamic content where possible
